Catch the blue moon that comes around every 3 years this Friday, August 31st, 2012.  If the weather permits, it will be very easy for anyone to catch a glimpse of the rare full moon.  Everyone is welcome to watch a special live stream hosted by Slooh Space Camera that will capture extraordinary and surprising views of the blue moon and the sun.  Laptop, IOS and Android mobile devices can all access the streaming.

Fox News reported that the broadcast program will showcase dual feeds of both "the moon and sun in true color."  Live shots of the moon will be taken from "an observatory in the Canary Islands, off the coast of Africa."  Shots of the sun will also be broadcasted from the Prescott Observatory in Arizona.

A special part of the broadcast honor the late Neil Armstrong who passed away this past Saturday at age 82.  Armstrong is the first man who has ever walked the moon in mankind's history.

Slooh's editor astronomer Bob Berman, and filmmaker Duncan Copp will talk about Armon's life and the NASA's Apollo moon program.

Berman said in a statement, "This Blue Moon that Slooh will explore Friday night is somewhat rare, but not as rare as the courage and talent of the late Neil Armstrong, the first human to set foot on our nearest celestial neighbor.  To honor him, Slooh will explore the Sea of Tranquility with its Canary Island 20-inch telescope, live, and have guests who will reveal some of the lesser-known secrets of that historic 1969 event. I think many of our visitors will be in for quite a surprise."

Though the name suggests, a blue moon is not actually blue in color.  It is simply an extra full moon in a calendar season and occurs every 2.7 years on average.  Though the blue moon is not spectacularly different from a normal full moon, this one will be special to pay tribute to man's first moon walker Neil Armstrong.
