Robert Griffin III vs Colt McCoy - Jay Gruden Reveals Which Redskins QB Will Start Sunday: Is RG3 Done In Washington?
The relationship between Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III and head coach Jay Gruden doesn't seem to be getting any better, with the coach deciding to start the hobbled Colt McCoy over the 2012 Rookie of the Year. Reports out of Washington say Gruden has "seen enough" of RG3 and has given up on the young quarterback.
Last week against the St Louis Rams, McCoy bombed two interceptions, threw zero touchdowns and was sacked an inordinately brutal six times before being replaced in the dying minutes of the 24-0 loss by Griffin.
Seemingly paying that outing no mind, Gruden clearly believes that McCoy is the quarterback from the week prior to that, where he threw three touchdowns and 392 total yards against the Indianapolis Colts.
Regardless, The Washington Post reports that coach Jay Gruden said that "Barring a setback regarding his neck injury," McCoy will suit up as Washington's starting quarterback when they take on the New York Giants on Sunday."
"Colt had a good day today," the Post reported Gruden as saying. "So long as he goes through the proper, necessary precautions and makes sure he gets cleared, Colt will be the starter. But he still has the process he has to go through."
In an earlier story, The Washington Post reported Gruden as saying he's seen enough of Griffin, and Gruden has obviously given up on him. "He's right here. I know where he's at. He's right here," the coach said.
As previously reported by Mstars News, it looks like Griffin's time in Washington has almost reached its conclusion, and ESPN's Matt Williamson offered up four possible destinations for the 24 year old.
He nominated the Buffalo Bills, saying "the Bills are in no man's land as it pertains to the quarterback position;" the Kansas City Chiefs because their coach "Andy Reid is excellent with quarterbacks;" the New York Jets who just need anybody and "RG III is going to be one of the top available options" and, ironically, the St Louis Rams, who (even though they traded him away for a haul of draft picks in 2012), "makes a lot of sense from a football standpoint."
Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports, however, believes that Griffin will be in Washington next year, and he offers five reasons as to why that would be case, including: "cutting or trading Griffin isn't the plan," that "Griffin's problems are fixable," that the QB is "still cheap," that he's "not the only one struggling offensively for the team" and that all of the 2015 options at QB "are a gamble."
What do you think? Should Washington keep RG3, or is there a trade for the quarterback that could be made that would be beneficial for the team? What's the best situation Griffin could end up in? And if that happens, what's Washington plan at QB for 2015? Draft Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota and start over?
