'Doctor Who' Season 9, 2015 Episodes Spoilers: Steven Moffat Talks New Companion - Does Clara Die In 2014 Special "Last Christmas?"
With the Doctor Who holiday special episode, "Last Christmas," premiering next week on Dec. 25, 2014, we're getting closer and closer to a rumor that has been bugging Whovians for months: Will Clara die before season 9? A bittersweet ending to season 8 and some confusing interview quotes have us all thinking we could say goodbye to actress Jenna Coleman, but will it really happen? A new interview with head writer Steven Moffat this week added fuel to the fire, as he spoke about the 2015 episodes featuring Peter Capaldi and whatever companion is alongside the time-traveling Time-Lord. (SPOILERS to follow)
When asked about season 9 and the elements he'd continue to establish and explore, he replied: "Obviously Peter and Jenna. Well, if Jenna's in it... [laughs]."
Clearly this has us worried about Clara!
"We took the Doctor/companion relationship to a place that's just more real in [Season 8], much more damaging and with more consequences," Mofatt told SFX Magazine this week, according to DoctorWhoTV.co.uk. "And whoever the companion is [in Season 9], you want to continue that idea. It can be a thrilling, exciting relationship but actually it can be a dangerous one too. That felt quite powerful and potent."
The Sherlock creator added: "What we did this year felt like what it would be like if a young girl got into a very intense friendship with an older time traveler. It's not the romantic version, it's not the thwarted romantic version, it's not the friendship version, it's not the fairy-tale version or the imaginary friend version. It's probably the version that would actually happen."
