Philippines Earthquake August 2012: Jessica Sanchez, Paris Hilton and Celebs Respond
Philippines has been hit with a 7.6 magnitude earthquake on late Friday, August 31, 2012, shaking the east coast of the island with an additional alert of a potential Tsunami. Celebs including Jessica Sanchez, Paris Hilton among others have respond to the quake with messages of concern.
"Just heard about the huge earthquake. My thoughts & prayers go out to everyone in the #Philippines. Love you all!" tweeted Paris Hilton.
Jessica Sanchez wrote, "Hope everyone is alright in the Philippines :/"
One 54-year-old woman was reportedly killed when her house collapsed in Cagayan de Oro city. Her 5-year-old grandson suffered some injuries and is currently being cared for in a hospital. The earthquake caused the power to shut down in several towns. Many car alarms were set off and residents evacuated from their homes to run to safety on higher grounds.
"It was very strong. My house was making sounds," Philippine House of Representatives member Bemruel Noel told Huffington Post.
The panic that revolved around a potential Tsunami died down when only smaller waves were reported to come off the coast.
Aftershocks are expected to roll around tonight, and the citizens were warned to stay alert in the night.
