'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Sith Villain Is Kylo Ren, But Who Is Phasma? New Character Name Revealed, Portrayed By 'Game Of Thrones' Cast Member Gwendoline Christie? [RUMORS]
We recently learned some of the characters' names for J.J. Abrams' 2015 Disney and Lucasfilm blockbuster, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, including the Sith features in the first teaser trailer, Kylo Ren. Though that news is pretty exciting in itself, a new character's name has been revealed, but we don't know which cast member portrays him or her. The newest name from this story is Phasma, and rumors are already spreading, claiming Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie is most likely the once portraying this role. It could easily be Lupita Nyong'o, Andy Serkis or any other mysterious cast member, though. (SPOILERS to follow)
The reveal of this Phasma character comes from Sith Kingdom, which points out some trademarks that correspond with character names for the new series. Along with Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley), Poe Damreon (Oscar Isaac), BB-8 (the ball droid), and Kylo Ren, Phasma is another trademark sought by Disney and Lucasfilm.
Slash Film points out that a Captain Phasma showed up in the 2009 fan-fiction called Tarkin's First, but nowhere else in Star Wars canon. Previous rumors of Christie's character have suggested that she plays an Imperial Officer that hunts down deserters. Boyega's character, Finn, looks like a deserter in the teaser trailer, so it all kind of adds up, wouldn't you say? Though, the fact that Finn is a deserted has yet to be confirmed. Most plot details are just rumors as far as we know.
This is all just speculation right now, but Phasma is almost certainly another character name to expect in The Force Awakens. Do you think Christie will portray Phasma, or even an Imperial Officer? Share your thoughts and opinions on the latest Star Wars rumors in the comments section below!
