Peter Jackson New Movies - 'The Hobbit: Battle Of The 5 Armies' Director Slams Hollywood Blockbuster Franchises, Returning To Smaller Films
Peter Jackson just released his final film adaptation featuring J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-Earth characters (for now) with The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, so what new movies will he work on now? According to him, he's interested in making smaller films, as opposed to, well, all of his other movies, which were big budget blockbusters. Not only did he reveal that he's going to scale down his films, Jackson also took a shot at big budget blockbusters that Hollywood is making these days. Wait, what?
We know we don't have to remind you, but (as UPROXX points out) Jackson is the guy that split up Tolkien's The Hobbit into three, three-hour films, even though the book was much shorter than any one of the Lord of the Rings trilogy novels, which got one film each. So why is he badmouthing blockbuster movies this week?
"I don't really like the Hollywood blockbuster bandwagon that exists right now," Jackson told Moviefone in a great new interview this week (via The Hollywood Reporter). "The industry and the advent of all the technology, has kind of lost its way. It's become very franchise driven and superhero driven."
From what we can tell, Jackson just isn't into the trend of superhero movies that have taken over Hollywood. He added that he's "stepping back" in terms of filmmaking.
"I'm absolutely happy to make smaller films," he said.
We'll have to wait and see how Jackson handles his smaller movies, but the last time we thought he was going to do a small movie was The Lovely Bones. In case you forgot about that film, it was not a small movie in the least. The budget was huge and CGI took center stage.
