[MSTARS NEWS EXCLUSIVE]: Kick Off The Holidays In Style! Yahoo Style Editor-In-Chief Joe Zee Reveals The Holidays' Hottest Looks That Will Land You On The Best-Dressed List! [VIDEO]
Joe Zee is an outspoken fashion and pop-culture expert, film and television style consultant and frequent guest on national television programs. He is the editor-in-chief and executive creative officer of Yahoo Style, a new digital magazine centered on all things fashion and style.
As editor-in-chief and executive creative officer of Yahoo Style, Joe leads the editorial and creative development of the most stylish digital fashion magazine. A veteran industry insider, Joe brings his distinct fashion expertise and red-carpet access to Yahoo Style. He was formerly the creative director of Elle, where he developed the brand's visual signature, styled the covers and penned a monthly column — "Style A to Zee" — that focused on fashion service and insider advice.
During a chat with MStars News reporter Star Connor, Joe talked about the fashion dos and don'ts for the holidays, festive looks for all occasions, fashion trends that celebrate the season and holiday fashion etiquette.
Star: You've done it all in fashion, you've dressed tons of A-list celebrities, you hosted your own TV show, you were the creative director of Elle Magazine. Now you're editor-in-chief of Yahoo Style. Can you tell us what Yahoo Style is and why it appealed to you now?
Joe Zee: We launched this digital magazine on Yahoo, back in September ... We really do great things, and we really cover fashion and style but from a pop-culture perspective ... It isn't just about fashion on the runway anymore, it's also about street style, red carpet, happening in the news, positive body image, the variety — all those issues are important to me.
Star: Many people will head to Yahoo Style to find out what they should wear during the holidays. What are some tips you would offer people who have an office holiday party coming up?
Joe Zee: Holiday office parties — that is a big thing that is going on this season, right now. Everybody has one to go to, there's a level of obligation, you want to tow that line for what is office appropriate but you don't want to be too corporate. When it comes to holiday office parties you want to do the day-to-night feel.
Star: Are there some things we should keep in mind that we should never wear on this occasion?
Joe Zee: You want to be festive. I love all the trends that come with the season, but you don't want to overdo it.
Star: How about for a fancy New Year's Eve party, when we want to dress to impress?
Joe Zee: I would love for everyone to approach New Year's looking stylish, but be comfortable! This is the fun night of the year — you're in here to usher out the old and usher in the new ... You don't want to be the person in the corner talking about your feet hurt because your shoes don't fit — you want to be able to have a good time.
Star: Looking ahead to 2015, do you foresee any new fashion trends we should be aware of? And what current trends do you think will be passed on in the new year?
Joe Zee: I think right now we've seen an huge trend with flat shoes, and I think we are seeing that flat shoe all the way in the new year. We are seeing what you call a flatform, which is a flat with a platform so you still get height, but it doesn't give you the heel.
Star: We're coming up on awards season in Hollywood, and red carpet fashions will be all the rage. Any celebrities out there who you think always nail it when it comes to fashion?
Joe Zee: Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston — these ladies have already killed it previous seasons, and they're going to kill it again. I know it, I love all their styles, it's all very all-American and it's classic.
Star: You've dressed a number of Hollywood A-listers. Were there any favorites that you especially enjoyed working with?
Joe Zee: I love Kerry Washington. I think what she's done for Scandal has pushed fashion in a new way, bringing back that bathrobe coat. I was just last week presenting an award to Sarah Jessica Parker, I've worked with her a few times, I love Sarah Jessica. I think that she has such a great free sense of style ... It's always fun, it's always different, it's always a little Carrie Bradshaw in her, that's why we love her so much.
