'Marvel's Luke Cage' Casting: Mike Colter Joins Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones As Netflix Superhero! [WATCH]
With Charlie Cox as Marvel's Daredevil and Krysten Ritter as Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones, the casting search has found the next leading man in the new Netflix superhero series. Mike Colter (Zero Dark Thirty) landed the lead role of Carl Lucas, aka Power Man, in Marvel's Luke Cage.
As we previously mentioned, Carl Lucas' origin story begins with him being framed for a crime he didn't commit. Wanting to get revenge for the alleged drug bust, the wrongfully accused criminal volunteers for an experimental treatment at the prison. The chemical compounds end up giving him superhuman strength and durability.
Reportedly, the Everybody Hates Chris comedian, Terry Crews, was offered by Marvel to play the role. The question was timing, especially because his award-winning Brooklyn Nine-Nine is already underway in its second season.
Maybe the Old Spice commercial actor knew something we didn't. Though there was no official announcement made, the Expendables franchise actor shared a snapshot on his official Whosay account and wrote, "Congratulations to my man Mike Colter for being cast as LUKE CAGE! A brilliant actor for one of my favorite superheroes ever! Love him!"
Now Marvel has officially announced the Ringer actor as their main star. Luke Cage will first appear in an episode of Jessica Jones. During an investigation in New York City, the super-powered private investigator will encounters the enigmatic superhero. His secrets that will dramatically alter Jessica in ways she could never have imagined.
Executive producer/showrunner Melissa Rosenberg states, "Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage. We're excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life."
Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel's Head of Television, adds, "Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones, and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos."
As we mentioned, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Daredevil will form The Defenders. We are anxiously awaiting to find out who will play Iron Fist, Daniel Rand.
