BYU Brawl VIDEO, Epic Miami Beach Bowl Cougars vs. Memphis Tigers Fight Erupts [WATCH]: Coaches & Twitter Fans React, Violent Overtime Victory
The first-ever Miami Beach Bowl took place between the Brigham Young University Cougars and University of Memphis Tigers on Monday (December 22). Unfortunately, Memphis' epic 55-48 victory was overshadowed by an intense on-field fight between the players. The violent brawl was captured on video, and the intense footage continues going viral online.
Tensions ran high throughout the entire college football game, especially considering the close score. Things ultimately turned sour when the Tigers snatched a game-winning interception during second overtime. Of course, several amped-up players began taunting their competitors on the sidelines. BYU players couldn't handle such over-the-top celebrations, and that's when fists started flying. Check it out:
Absolutely insane. Things not nasty - and extremely bloody.
Brigham's Head Coach Tom Holmoe later tweeted this apology:
@TomHolmoe: "We expect better of our athletes, even in the face of a difficult loss. We intend to fully review this matter. I apologize to Cougar Nation."
Memphis Coach Justin Fuente expressed similar thoughts, telling ESPN:
"I don't know what happened at the end, first of all, so I don't know how upset I am... I'm sure I'll see it eventually. It's not who we are, it's not what we want to represent. I hope it doesn't take away from an incredible football game, for both sides."
Twitter fans continue going crazy:
@DrGMLaTulippe: "That #Memphis / #BYU brawl is the most sadly accurate accidental commentary on the state of national race relations in modern history."
@HannahStocking: "That Memphis byu brawl was so dumb. No one looks "cool" in a brawl or in a fight to me. Love more fight less."
@therealgraydon: "Memphis-BYU brawl could be worse. They could have quietly gone back to the locker room and given 'rude' one-word answers to journalists."
@notGeorgeOleary: "As a result of the brawl, twelve BYU players were suspended AND excommunicated."
@ClayTravisBGID: "Totally expected BYU to brawl. But really expected better from Memphis."
@davehydesports: "The ol' Orange Bowl karma demanding a fight on its holy grounds. How else to explain BYU in a brawl?"
@RECRUITINGUT: "Hahahahahaha BYU really thought they could win a brawl with Memphis. Key word: Memphis."
@RNearon: "Don't ever pick a brawl with BYU. Them Polynesian big boys will wreck you #BYUvsMEM."
@ewill901: "That Memphis BYU brawl is crazy man."
@TheBadgerNation: "BYU engaged in a post game brawl following the Miami Beach Bowl. What page is that addressed on in the school's honor code?"
