Idris Elba New James Bond Rumors: Conservative Radio Host Rush Limbaugh Slams 007 Casting Speculation, Says Daniel Craig Can't Be Replaced By Black Actor!
The recent Sony email hacks of late 2014 have revealed plenty of movie news and secrets, one of the more newsworthy being the fact that at least one executive wants actor Idris Elba to takeover the role of James Bond after Daniel Craig leaves the franchise. Elba, a black man, has been rumored for the 007 role for quite some time, but now the evidence is there that execs are definitely discussing it. With this said, you can probably imagine what conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh has to say about the casting rumors. We'll give you a hint: it gets kind of racist!
Check out our previous coverage of this casting rumor here!
"James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming. He was white and Scottish. Period. That is who James Bond is, was," the radio host said, according to The Guardian. "But now [they are] suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Britain, rather than a white from Scotland. But that's not who James Bond is and I know it's racist to probably point this out."
While we appreciate that Limbaugh called himself out for saying something very racist, he wasn't done with commenting on the topic.
He added: "We've had 50 years of white Bonds because Bond is white," Limbaugh argued. "Bond was never Black. Ian Fleming never created a Black Brit to play James Bond. Sometimes, a story is just a story. But we can always make it better. We can always be more fair. We can always be more equal about it. So, fine and dandy. George Clooney and Kate Hudson as Barack and Michelle Obama, and you can have Idris Elba as James Bond."
