Watch Opening 9 Minutes Of SyFy's '12 Monkeys' 2015 TV Series [VIDEO]

SyFy's brand new series, 12 Monkeys, which is based on the Bruce Willis film of the same name from director Terry Gilliam, premieres on the cable network on January 16, 2015, but this week we have a great treat for you. If you're ready to tune in to the show in two weeks, you might want to get a head start on the series' opening sequence. That's right; you can watch the first 9 minutes of the brand new show right now! Check out the video below to get a head start on the new series.

According to IGN, series star Aaron Stanford (Nikita) portrays Cole, a man from 2043. In this future, people are all but wiped out by a mysterious viral outbreak. He is tasked to travel back in time to stop this from taking place. The opening sequence shows Cole doing some time-traveling to meet up with Cassandra Railly, the person he believes can help him with succeeding at his mission.

Here is the official synopsis of the show via SyFy:

The show follows the journey of a time traveler, Cole, from the post-apocalyptic future. Using a dangerous and untested method of time travel, Cole arrives in the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate 93.6% of the human race. Will Cole be able to save the fate of mankind or is mankind bound by fate? Taking place in the ravaged future of 2043 and the present day (2015), 12 Monkeys explores themes of destiny, fate, love and the possibility of second chances.
