Gangnam Style: Kpop Wave Enters the US through Psy's Wacky Horse Dance Moves
Before Gangnam Style became famous in the U.S., there were many South Korean bands who made it a goal to enter the American market. None of them could break through.
Koreans are baffled at the increasing popularity and acceptance of Gangnam Style and Psy. The country tried to enter the U.S. market by sending their most beautiful and handsome singers and by creating music that they thought would fit well into the market. Wonder Girls had the chance to open for one of the biggest bands at the time, Jonas Brothers. However, it did not attract enough attention to leave an impression on Americans.
On the other hand, Psy could care less about the US market at the time he created the song. He simply wrote it for his people, poking fun at the huge gap between the rich and the poor in South Korea.
Somehow, his song hit home for people worldwide. It was not about his looks, although his shades may have played a part in creating a funny image.

"I enjoy Gangnam Style. It's so fun, free, and light hearted. I can connect with it. I can see how others can easily replace Gangnam with their own city name. Psy is a genius!," a Gangnam Style fan told Mstarz after seeing the star show up at a Dodger's game a few weeks ago.
Psy admitted that he did not expect any success to this degree. As soon as Gangnam Style began to make waves, Scooter Braun saw what was coming and immediately contacted the South Korean rapper. Soon after, Psy signed onto his label Schoolboys Records alongside Justin Bieber, The Wanted and Carly Rae Jepsen.

Psy's music video currently has over 144 million Youtube views and seems no where near stopping. It has become the 5th most viral video to hit 100 million views in a 52 days. Rebecaa Black's "Friday" sits at 4th, Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" at 3rd, Britain Got Talent's Susan Boyle at 2nd, and Kony 2012 at the top spot hitting 100 million views in 6 days. Justin Bieber's "Baby" is now at the 6th place.
Through Psy, Korean culture, language, and music is being introduced to the world. Gangnam Style when literally translated means "your big brother is Gangnam Style."
"Gangnam" is a district in South Korea where the rich people live and live luxuriously. Psy compared Gangnam to Beverly Hills and other rich areas of the US that are over the top wealthy compared to other cities.
Many people have been exposed to Korean music for the first time through Gangnam Style. Even though they cannot understand the lyrics, the music is blasted on speakers everywhere.
Even Hollywood celebrities can't stop talking about. From Britney Spears to Katy Perry, it's considered the next "Call Me Maybe"
