'The Strain' Season 2 Casting: Max Charles Joins Guillermo Del Toro, Corey Stoll, Mía Maestro! [WATCH]
Audiences are eagerly anticipating for Season 2 of The Strain to begin on FX. Based on the Dark Horse Comics adaption his own vampire novels, visionary director Guillermo Del Toro now adds Max Charles to the cast with main stars Mía Maestro and Corey Stoll.
The first season follows Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll) and Nora Martinez (Maestro) as they discover a deadly vampire plague spreading across New York City. As they search for a cure, an old and retired vampire hunter, Abraham Setrakian, (David Bradley) and a rat exterminator, Vasiliy Fet (Kevin Durand) join the crusade to face off an ancient evil. They must all work together to save the world from The Master.
According to Deadline, the American Sniper child actor joins the cast as a series regular. Charles replaces Ben Hyland as Zach Goodweather, Eph's only son. A "deeply emotional storyline" is in the works for Zach's character. In the series finale, Zach is at the start of a downward spiral after witnessing his mother turn into a vampire.
Executive producer/showrunner Carlton Cuse released a statement, "It is a pleasure to welcome Max Charles to the cast. We recast this part due to some specific story needs we have downstream. We are sad to see Ben go. He is a very talented actor and a wonderful person. We will all miss him and thank him for his great work."
During the first season, Hyland not only had to deal with special effects and work under a speedy TV schedule, he was the anti-Carl Grimes from The Walking Dead. Hyland and David Bradley delivered an important scene between Abraham and Zach, which resembled a child speaking to his grandfather.
If Hyland wishes to continue an acting career in Hollywood, his future looks bright indeed.
