Watch 'Inherent Vice's Joaquin Phoenix Crushing On Amy Poehler; Mom 'Can Boogie' & Danced With Usher, Owes His Career to Golden Globes!? [VIDEO]
Inherent Vice star Joaquin Phoenix has revealed that he has a huge crush on Golden Globes co-host and Parks & Recreation star Amy Poehler and that he can't remember how many Golden Globes he's been nominated for... but more importantly that his mom spent a P Diddy Globes afterparty dancing with Usher! Promoting his role as Doc Sportello in Paul Thomas Anderson's new movie Inherent Vice, opposite Josh Brolin and Michael K Williams, the Her star opened up on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
With Kimmel explaining that Phoenix plays "a detective who's high the entire movie, kinda like Shaggy in Scooby Doo, really," he also explained that Joaquin has a total of five Golden Globe nominations... something that the actor, who's nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture for Inherent Vice, scoffed at.
"That seems inconceivable," Phoenix laughed. (It's true however; he's picked up noms for Gladiator, Walk The Line, The Master, Her and now Inherent Vice)
But, unbidden, Phoenix offered up to Jimmy, "You know who I do find attractive? Is that Amy, what's her name?" he smiled. "Amy Poehler. Yeah. I think she's very attractive," the movie star said with a big grin.
"I guess," he added, "just because she's hosting the Globes, and she's having a party and I'm going to go, I'm a little nervous about seeing her; I don't know what to say. "
The best bit? When Phoenix's face drops when he discovers that Poehler has a boyfriend - Nick Kroll - but then how he lights up after Kimmel tells Phoenix that her boyfriend "hasn't ben nominated for nearly as many awards as you have."
"Niiiiiiiice," replies Phoenix. "So you're saying they have a solid relationship?"
As for whether or not he'd like to break them up, Phoenix says "No, I don't think so."
Better still, later in his chat with Kimmel, Phoenix explained that he takes his mom to the Golden Globes, because she has a blast.
"I like going with her to the Globes because she has a great time," he said. "She laughs at all the jokes and she seems to really enjoy herself."
Not only that, he said, but she also has fun at the afterparties - even ending up dancing with Usher at a Diddy afterparty.
"Last year," reveled Phoenix, "Diddy had an afterparty and we went there. I didn't know what to expect y'know, so I said, 'Let's go to this party'."
"And," he connoted, "all the waitresses are wearing lingerie, and it's this very overtly sexual kind of party, so my mom is ordering drinks from these waitresses in lingerie... but the thing is, my mom can boogie," Joaquin grinned. "She gets down. She doesn't fuck around. She doesn't drink, but she likes to dance and she set off the dance floor.
"It was so funny man," he laughed. "The DJ was spinning and nobody was dancing and she got out there and she started dancing. I walked out for a minute and came back in and she was dancing with Usher! And like, really kinda sexy. So she has a good time."
You can watch Kimmel's interview with Phoenix below, and watch the Golden Globes this Sunday Jan. 11 on NBC, hosted by Tina Fey and Phoenix's crush, Amy Poehler.
And, after being informed of his five nominations, Phoenix also explains that he owes his career to award shows. "It makes a huge difference," he says. "It's weird," he adds however, "being singled out for something that's such a collaboration." Watch below.
