WWE NXT Results 1/21/15: No. 1 Contender Tournament for Sami Zayn's NXT Championship Begins
The January 21, 2015 edition of WWE's NXT emanates live on the WWE Network and begins with General Manager William Regal in his office. He announces the next NXT Takeover special will be on February 11 and says the tournament to name the No. 1 Contender for Sami Zayn's NXT Championship will start tonight. He also announces an NXT Women's Championship rematch between Charlotte and Sasha Banks.
Tye Dillinger is in the ring for a match, when Zayn's music hits. The champ rushes the ring and, in a surprising move, beats the tar out of Dillinger before the bell rings. Regal comes out and tries to calm him down, but Zayn says he won't wrestle again until he gets his hands on Kevin Owens. Regal counters that Owens doesn't deserve a title shot and he does not reward thugs who attack people like cowards. Zayn tells him to make it a non-title match if need be, and Regal consents and books the match at the next Takeover special.
Finn Balor defeats Curtis Axel in a first-round tournament match with the double foot stomp off the top rope.
Bull Dempsey cuts a promo backstage about losing to Baron Corbin. He vows to get revenge in the tournament next week.
Charlotte retains her NXT Women's Championship against Sasha Banks by disqualification when Becky Lynch interferes. The heels beat down the champ, but Bayley returns to make the save. Bayley stares at the title in her hands, and Charlotte takes it from her. Bayley gets angry and plants the champion with her patented suplex. Regal comes out and announces a Fatal Four Way match for the title at the next Takeover special.
Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy upset The Vaudevillains when Blake rolls Aiden English. The winners then cut a backstage promo and challenge the Lucha Dragons to a Tag Team Championship match next week.
Hideo Itami defeats Tyler Breeze in a first-round tournament match with the running knee.
