Denzel Washington: "Whitney Houston Was My Girl"
Denzel Washington talked about Whitney Houston, his new film Flight, and other topics in a recent interview with GQ magazine. In his interview, Washington said, "Whitney was my girl, and she had done so well in recovery. And that is the toughest part about addiction."
According to the L.A. County coroner, Houston's death was contributed by cocaine. In a revealing interview with Diane Sawyer in 2002, Houston was asked if her addictions were alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, or pills? Calmly, "The Bodyguard" actress replied, "It has been. At times."
Washington who co-starred alongside Houston in "The Preacher's Wife" said, "That was a monster drug that got a hold of her, it was a mean one. You can't go back to that one. Nobody beats that." He proceeded, "I look at people -- and I don't think I'm speaking out of line -- Sam Jackson, I've known for thirty-some-odd years, he was down at the bottom. And he came all the way back. And when he cleaned up, he never looked back. But he can't have that beer, because it might lead to the tough thing."
In his recent Film, "Flight," Washington plays an Airline Captain who saved 102 lives after the plane he was flying fell apart during flight. Washington's Character named, "Captain Whitaker," was praised as a hero until they found high alcohol levels in his blood. The drama packed movie will show Whitaker in a heroic and criminal light.
