X-Men Apocalypse Casts Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops
The cast of Bryan Singer's upcoming film X-Men: Apocalypse has added a few new members to portray the younger versions of the beloved characters.
The director revealed on Twitter on Thursday that Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner would play Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp would play Storm, and Tye Sheridan would play Cyclops. Turner tweeted her joy about the news on Thursday.
Turner plays Sansa Stark on HBO's hit Game of Thrones, while Shipp is best known for her role as Aaliyah in a Lifetime biopic. Sheridan is a relative unknown, but he has received critical praise for his work in the 2012 film Mud.
Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen have appeared in every X-Men movie except for X-Men: First Class, but the two actors will not reprise their roles as Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto, respectively, in X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016.
Stewart confirmed to Larry King that he and his good friend would not appear in Bryan Singer's next movie. "No, nor Sir Ian McKellen, either," he told King when asked about it. "I was learning quite a lot more about it last night, and it is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters," Stewart added. "And so I don't think we'll be making an appearance."
