The Walking Dead Season 5 Spoilers: Five Things We Want in Second Half of Fifth Season

AMC's The Walking Dead returns with the midseason premiere of Season 5 on Sunday night, which means the second half of the fifth season is almost upon us. With that said, let's go through some of the things we do and don't want to happen in Season 5B.

Get the survivors moving to Washington, D.C.

In The Walking Dead comic, the survivors head toward Washington, D.C. shortly after the destruction of the prison. Eugene tells them he has a way to fix the world, and they head to D.C. to make it happen. Except, as on the show, Eugene was lying. The group still decides to head for D.C., and they eventually meet Aaron, a man who takes them to the Alexandria Safe Zone, which remains to this day the longest-running location in the comic.

The recently released first two minutes of Sunday's episode show Noah telling Rick about a safe haven he once heard about near D.C. It stands to reason, then, that the second half of Season 5 will push the survivors toward Alexandria.

So let's actually get them there by season's end. The first three episodes of Season 5 were fantastic because they swiftly and satisfactorily brought the Terminus storyline to a close. But the next five episodes sputtered forward as we spent time with the hospital crew. Don't waste time in Season 5B. Let's get on the road and get moving.

Introduce new characters.

It's all but confirmed that Aaron will debut in the second half of Season 5, which is great. If we manage to meet the rest of the Alexandria crew, then that's even better. The survivors in D.C. are integral to the comic, so it wouldn't hurt to get to know a few of them. Having said that...

Kill a few more characters.

Beth's death, no matter what you thought of the execution, resonated because she was the beacon of optimism in this dreary world. Her death had weight, and we will hopefully see the effects of it on the rest of the survivors.

Now I'm not suggesting we go back to the early seasons when characters dropped like flies, but this is a dangerous world. Prove that by taking out a few people.

Explore the characters further.

Character deaths and plot developments mean nothing if we don't know or care about the people on screen. Every time The Walking Dead tries to explore its characters, though, it grinds the action to a halt. We don't need to separate the characters every time we want to learn about their respective pasts. Everyone is together now, but we can still take the time to learn about each of them.

More badass Rick.

Rick Grimes' evolution is one of the focal points of the comics, so the show should treat him accordingly. We see Rick go from scared survivor to fearless leader to completely brutal to compassionate optimist throughout the comic series. Right now, we're in the "completely brutal" stage. Let's enjoy it. Plunge him further into darkness so that his return to the light means that much more when it happens.
