Nokia Lumia 920 Price Comparisons, Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 5, Release Date
The Nokia Lumia 920 release date is coming soon with most rumors claiming an October or November 2012 release. Apple's iPhone 5 and Samsung's Galaxy S3 have already been dominating the smartphone market. How can the Lumia 920 gain some market share?
The price will play a big part in whether it can compete with other leading smartphones that have already established their brand more strongly in the recent years. Europe has reportedly received the pricing for the phone however the US hasn't released any info yet.
"The price for the unlocked iPhone 5 with no contract in the UK begins at £529 for the 16GB model and increases to £599 for the 32GB variant, according to ZDNet. The Nokia Lumia 920 is only available as a 32GB storage model and some price leaks from the European market reveal very promising news. Although Nokia Germany previously announced the Lumia 920 price at around €649 it seems that Nokia in Italy is to price the Lumia 920 at €599 (£475). That is of course around £125 less than the equivalent 32GB model of the iPhone 5 and that's quite a difference!" PhonesReview reported.
Experts suggest that in order for Lumia 920 to attract phone buyers, the price must be cheaper than the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 in the US. With a two year contract Apple and Samsung phones cost about $200 USD. Without a contract, the iPhone 5 starts at $649 for the 16GB and $749 for the 32 GB. Without a contract, the Galaxy G3 16GB starts at around $599.
"The unsubsidized cost of the higher-end Lumia 920 is around $800 U.S. - based on Thursday's exchange rate, and prices vary slightly between European countries. That's more than the current unsubsidized market price of competing Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S III, and price-wise, puts the Lumia 920 close to the Apple's new iPhone 5. The middle-tier Lumia 820 is around $650 unsubsidized," reported Wired.
One thing that is clear though is that Nokia will offer a better maps system than Apple's newest maps. However that is not enough to convert phone buyers.
The Lumia 920 is rumored to be available October 21 for AT&T and Verizon may release the phone in early November according to GforGames. They also reported that Microsoft is expecting to release the new mobile OS on October 26th, which is a big step up from the WP 7.
