Leading up to today's match, Bayern's coach, Josep Guardiola praised his opponents and their manager, Mircea Lucescu.
"I respect Shakhtar and Mircea Lucescu a lot. He is a very clever coach who has put together one of the best teams in Europe," the coach said. "I told my players: 'If you beat Shakhtar then you can be very proud because they really are one of the top teams.'"

Meanwhile, Shakhtar hasn't played a match in 2015, so a win today, according to Lucescu, would clearly make them heores.
"We will be heroes if we beat Bayern and qualify for the next stage," he said this week in a press conference. "Our last competitive game was ten weeks ago, and you all know about the conditions we have been working under this season. Almost everyone will tell you that Bayern are going through, especially after their 8-0 win in the last league match."
This last league victory came this past weekend when Munich defeated Hamburg in a shutout, marking the team's biggest win since 1984. Will Shakhtar be up for this task after such a lull in game time?
