News and updates regarding Sony's highly anticipated and long-in-the-works ambitious video game The Last Guardian definitely hasn't been great recently. The last we heard of the project was that it could possibly be developed for PlayStation 4, but it has been in development since 2007. This week, according to United States Patent Office, Sony did not renew its trademark on the title of this game, thus seemingly abandoning it. Now, the company has responding to any cancellation rumors circling the project. Keep reading to see if The Last Guardian has indeed been cancelled or not.

According to Gamma Squad, the deadline to renew this trademark came and went this week, leading to some grim speculation surrounding the ambitious project. The website explained that, though the trademark was abandoned, it doesn't exactly mean the end of the project - it just isn't promising.
Luckily for those wondering, Sony spoke with Gamespot this week to clear up any concerns of the cancellation of The Last Guardian. While the trademark is gone, Sony tells the video gaming news website that it "can confirm that the Last Guardian is still in development".

Back in December of 2014, the game's creator, Fumito Ueda spoke with Dengeki PlayStation about the title, revealing some progress.
"The Last Guardian, by which I mean all the hardships and the unforeseen amount of time required than what was originally thought. Talks with Sony Computer Entertainment on The Last Guardian have been ironed out, and we're making progress under completely new conditions," Ueda said (translated by Kotaku). "I'm also working on some other things that I'll hopefully be able to show in time if progress is smooth."
