WWE NXT Preview 2/18/15: Takeover Rival Fallout Featuring Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Finn Balor, Adrian Neville, Sasha Banks, Charlotte
WWE's NXT will air its February 18, 2015 episode tonight on the WWE Network at 8 p.m. Eastern and will feature all the fallout from the NXT Takeover: Rival special last week.
Kevin Owens is the new NXT Champion after the pulverized Sami Zayn with multiple powerbombs to the point where the referee had to call the match and award the belt to Owens. Now that the most recent addition to the NXT roster has come in like a hurricane and taken the top championship just two months after his debut, what will he do now? Will we see Zayn on tonight's broadcast, or will the former champion nurse his injuries and stay hidden until the time is right?
Finn Balor is now the new No. 1 Contender for the NXT Championship after he defeated Adrian Neville in the finals of the tournament at Rival. Will the artist formerly known as Prince Devitt gun for Owens immediately, or will he take his time in going after the title? As for Neville, where does he go from here? He is no longer champion, and he came up short in the No. 1 Contender tournament, so what does he do now?
We also know from spoilers that Rhyno makes a surprise return tonight and is involved in a segment with Finn Balor, so we'll have to see what happens there.
Sasha Banks is the new NXT Women's Champion, so what's next for her? Will Charlotte get a rematch, or will Bayley or Becky Lynch step up into the No. 1 Contender spot?
For those of you who are hoping that NXT is building toward an NXT Championship match at WrestleMania 31, Sami Zayn may have some bad news for you. Here's what the fan favorite had to say to the Chad Dukes Wrestling Show recently.
"Part of NXT's appeal to me especially amongst people like yourself, like you're saying lifelong wrestling fans who are sort of like discovering NXT and being like 'Wait, this is the kind of wrestling I used to like' or 'I like this.' It's succinct. It's an hour-long, you've got some great wrestlers, and you've got great storytelling, and it's simple and it's gritty.
"While at the same time, it's so funny people forget it's PG. It's a PG product, but it's so real and gritty and people almost lose sight of that. The whole point I'm trying to get at is it's sort of carved out its own little niche within this giant wrestling company that is the WWE. We've almost carved out our own underground following, it almost has a cult following, which is so strange to say because it's part of the world's biggest wrestling company.
"So, I think if you were to have an NXT World Championship Match at WrestleMania while obviously for me personally I would be a huge thrill, I don't think you can necessarily capture the magic of what NXT is and really harness it and put it on full display for the world to understand it, on such a grand scale like that."
...
"When you take the product out of its environment and throw it on a grand stage I think it would lose something there."
