Only two years after the widely successful, popular video game reboot of one of the most iconic gaming icons, the film industry is getting in on the action. 2013 held the reboot of Tomb Raider, an action adventure game following Lara Croft-the tougher, female version of Indiana Jones. On consoles, we got to meet a younger Croft before she earned her Raider title, and it looks like Hollywood wants to show us a similar origin story on the big screen! Warner Brothers has hired Snow White and the Huntsman and Divergent screenwriter Evan Daugherty to pen this new project. So who can replace Angelina Jolie as Lara?

According to Slash Film, this origin story idea for Croft and the Tomb Raider series was announced over six years ago. We haven't really heard anything since, and when the video game reboot came, the movie idea fell even further into the back of our minds. But now, Deadline describes this revitalized project as being "on a fast track, and there is strong progress to production language in the rights deal with Square Enix, the video game company behind the title."
