Orlando Orea, Suspect In Fatal Slashing Michael Jones, A Youth Soccer Coach, Flees For Mexico City
Murder suspect, Orlando Orea, also known as Orlando Gutierrez or Orlando Estevas, has fled the US for Mexico City after being accused of slashing a 25-year-old youth soccer coach to death last weekend in New York City.
Tuesday morning, Orea purchased a one-way ticket with cash for Mexico City on Aero Mexico airlines. Orea's purchase was made moments before the flight was schedule to leave Kennedy International Airport. According to Associated Press, detectives saw Orea's name on the 4:45 p.m. flight and immediately placed him on a no-fly list, but it was too late and the suspect was gone.
Sunday, Orea and the victim Michael Jones were seen arguing around 4:30 a.m. at 14th Street Union Square in Manhattan. Jones, 25 was with his girlfriend earlier that evening and had parted around midnight. When police arrived Jones, 25 was laying bloody on the street and was later pronounced dead at the Bellevue Hospital.
Authorities later released surveillance footage of the suspect on Sunday. The killer, a man with a ponytail wearing a jacket was seen in the footage. A motive for the murder is still unclear.
The alleged suspect was seen at another bar where witnesses say he had gotten into a fight involving a woman. Patrons at the bar say they seen Orea with a knife before he left the bar.
Authorities are now trying to locate Orea in Mexico.
