Taraji P. Henson Responds To Mo’Nique After 'Precious' Star Claims She was Supposed to Play Cookie Lyons on ‘Empire': Co-Creator, Danny Strong Claims She was Never Going to get That Role [VIDEO]
Looks like this he said, she said drama hasn't stopped if you are catching up on Empire drama. MStars News has learned that Taraji P. Henson is responding to the comments made by Mo'Nique about who was supposed to play the role of Cookie Lyons in hit Fox show.
During an interview, Mo'Nique, who is famous for her late 90s, earlier 00s hit sitcom, The Parkers, and for working with Empire creator, Lee Daniels on Precious, winning an Oscar for her role in the film, revealed that Daniels offered the role of Cookie to her before Henson, but claims Fox executives didn't want her to play the part due to her reputation.
"He says listen, the executives at Fox said you are difficult," Mo'Nique told Inside Edition.
Empire co-creator Danny Strong disagrees with her comments and claims: "We discussed Mo'Nique once very briefly. We never offered her the part. She wasn't going to be Cookie."
Strong tweeted that they never had any plans to make the Oscar winner Cookie on the show. "Mo'Nique is so talented she'd be great in almost anything. But Cookie was always Taraji."
Media outlets revealed that Henson responded by retweeting that statement above.
Strong also set the record straight when he tweeted, "Mo'Nique was never offered roles in Empire or The Butler."
Mo'Nique doesn't seem to want any drama as she supports the cast. She tweeted: "Hey babies. Please don't get this confused. Support Empire. Keep helping them break records."
She also added a new tweet that read: "My loves. Don't ever be afraid to speak and live in truth. It will make us better as people. Blackbird in theatres April 24th, 2015."
The tweet below seems to be a great quote that fits this situation. It says, "I fight for my characters. I owe that to the people tuning in." It seems Mo'Nique is really trying to fight for the character, Cookie!
