As Felix Baumgartner leaped off the edge of space, people worldwide held their breath watching him break the speed of sound. The mission was a success and now Baumgartner can live to tell the tale. The Red Bull Stratos space jump has set several new records including the first man ever to break the speed of sound.

The skydive occurred on Sunday, October 14, 2012. A live stream video captured the entire process of ascension and jump. The free fall took a mere 4 minutes and 19 seconds according to the mission spokeswoman Sarah Anderson.

"Fearless Felix" was raised over 120,000 feet above the Earth and before he took the fall, he gave a thumbs up to the millions of people who watched worldwide.

Over 7.1 million people were reportedly on the live stream, breaking the previous record of 500,000 Youtube live stream views held by the London Summer Olympics.

He had prepared for five years to take this short yet historical space jump.

A press conference is expected to take place and the time will be announced on redbullstratos.com.
