Madonna Fans Upset with Fake Gun Performance at Denver Concert

A poor judgment call by Madonna has some fans upset over her recent use of guns during an onstage performance.

The 54-year-old singer put on a concert at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo. on Thursday night when she took out fake guns for use in her show.

During the show, Madonna pulled out a fake gun and shot a masked gunman which was followed by images of blood on the large screen behind the stage.

This unsettled some Denver attendees who felt the actions hit too close to home.

According to the Washington Post, Denver radio personality Peter Burns was in the crowd and could feel the tension.

"You could see people kinda looking at each other," said Burns about the people in his section of the concert. "I heard the word 'Colorado,' you know, 'Aurora,' 'shooting.' You could hear people talking about it and it was little bit unsettling. I saw two or three people get up and grab their stuff and actually leave their seats."

Madonna's MDNA Tour has used guns before during her performance, but those affected by the July 20 shooting in an Aurora, Colo. theater say it was in bad taste.

This isn't the first time Madonna has gotten in trouble for her use of guns on her tour. In July, the singer performed on stage in Scotland and brandished her fake guns even with a nationwide ban.

Madonna was previously warned not to show the fake guns, but a member of her tour told the Huffington Post: "Madonna would rather cancel her show than censor her art. Her entire career, she has fought against people telling her what she can and cannot do. She's not about to start listening to them now."

According to E!, Madonna released a statement about her use of guns saying: "I do not condone violence or the use of guns. Rather they are symbols of wanting to appear strong and wanting to find a way to stop feelings that I find hurtful or damaging. In my case I want to stop the lies and hypocrisy of the church, the intolerance of many narrow minded cultures and societies I have experienced throughout my life and in some cases the pain I have felt from having my heart broken."

The country was stunned when on July 20 James Holmes killed 12 and wounded 71 attendees at a midnight show of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora.

Madonna's tour continues this weekend when she will be performing in Dallas,Texas.
