Iggy Azalea May Quit Social Media "Forever" After Postponed 2015 Tour Due To Online Harassment
Iggy Azalea might be going off the radar, or at least, the Internet. During a visit to SXSW in Austin last week, the Australian rapper spoke with the Associated Press about her recent absence from social media. "Yeah, so nice not to be on social media so I'm kind of going to continue that until, maybe forever," she said. Azalea said her decision comes after being on the recieving end of some nasty online harassment following an incident with overzealous paparazzi.
"I think it's disgusting," Azalea told the Associated Press. "I don't think it's nice to stick your camera through somebody's fence and hedge and take a picture of them in their yard and think that's OK at all." Azalea has been gradually backing away from social media since February. When a paparazzo photographed her and boyfriend Nick Young on vacation in Hawaii, Azalea was "bombarded with 'shocking' comments about her body" when the photos were released online.
"Just got back from a great vacation, came online and saw apparently it's shocking and unheard of to be a woman and have cellulite," Azalea tweeted soon after the incident. "I feel the hatred and pettiness I see online at all times is at making me become an angry person and I cannot be that. To become nasty because of the way I feel i am treated would be a disservice to my fans and I promise I will try to keep smiling." Since then, Azalea's managers have reportedly been handling her social media accounts.
Now that Azalea is on hiatus from social media, she's focusing on her upcoming Great Escape tour, which was reportedly postponed due to "production delays." Azalea explained the decision to reschedule the tour and told the Associated Press, "The whole point was to make no compromises, but nothing's changed in terms of my creative vision," she said. "It's very kind of like Patrick Nagel, powerful '80s androgynous women vibe." Azalea also said she's busy working on "Pretty Girls," a collaboration with Britney Spears, and hopes to release a new album "at the end of 2015."
