Viewers are anxiously awaiting to see Season 2 of Empire make it way back on Fox. When the show returns from hiatus, what will Luscious Lyon (Terrence Howard) think when he sees his son, Jamal (Jussie Smollett), the heir in charge to his throne, and his "new gangster status?"

As we previously mentioned, Luscious (Howard) is a hip hop mogul who's interested in taking his company public and passing the torch to one of his three kids. Cookie ((Taraji P. Henson), the ex-matriarch of the wealthy family who has just been released from prison. The company is divided between the aspiring Jamal (Smollett), playboy rapper Hakeem (Bryshere Gray), and business savvy Andre (Trai Byers).

During the first season finale, Vernon was murdered by Andre and his pregnant wife, Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday). Though Jamal has earned the company, Anika (Grace Gealey) has setup a hostile takeover against him. From beyond the grave, Vernon (Malik Yoba) got his revenge for Bunky. Arrested on murder charges, Luscious was last seen in a prison cell, thinking his own wife and kids set him up.

In an interview with E! Online, executive producer Ilene Chaiken reveals what's coming up next, "I'm excited to continue to explore character, and to learn more about the past as we go into the future. I'm excited to see what Cookie does with her new status, especially in the absence of Lucious, however long he's absent. One of her main drives has been to bring her family back together, and she suffered a bit of a setback. She lost her relationship with her most beloved son, and I want to see how Cookie resolves that or regains her relationship with Jamal."

Check out this OMG moment fron the Season Finale:

Chaiken adds, "I want to see what Jamal does with his new position and his gangster status. Has he really fully assumed the mantle of his father's heir? Is he the most deserving son? Or is there still a lot for him to overcome before he can truly be the leader? And in the end, will he be the leader? None of those stories are over. We took them to the edge of one precipice only to jump towards another.

Empire returns for Season 2 on Fox.
