'Spider-Island' #1: Andrew Garfield Peter Parker, Flash Thompson's Agent Venom Fight In Secret Wars!
After playing him on the big screen, Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker has a big role to play in Marvel Comics' big event, Secret Wars. Even with the help of Agent Venom aka Flash Thompson, will the amazing Spider-Man be able to save the Marvel Universe in writer Christos Gage and artist Paco Diaz's Spider-Island #1.
As we previously mentioned, Secret Wars features the Marvel superheroes from alternate realities coming together to meet in an epic standoff. The Marvel's superheroes and super-villains will be forced to defend themselves for the survival of their universe. There will be no Marvel Universe, no Ultimate Universe, or any other, just Battleworld.
In the plot synopsis, the Spider-Queen has finally won, turning her entire domain into an island full of Spider-Madness. Peter Parker, her dangerous gambit, has all been completely lost. With Spider-Man defeated and captured, all hope lies in the hands of Flash Thompson, the symbiote wielding hero known as Agent Venom. But does Flash really stand a chance against the Spider-Queen?
In an interview with Marvel, Cage explains Agent Venom's role in the series, "Due to his symbiote's vulnerability to the Spider-Queen's sonic powers, he failed to save his hero, Spider-Man or New York. Now he drives himself mercilessly to find redemption, by any means necessary."
The issue will also feature a Spider-Girl back-up by writer Tom DeFalco and art collaborators Ron Frenz and Sal Buscema. which takes place in an MC2 (Earth-982) world that will appear to be familiar to long-time fans.
As we previously mentioned, Miles Morales might actually lose his home world in Ultimate End #1, Parker is married with a wife and kid in Renew Your Vows #1, and Magneto leads the last remaining X-Men survivors against the Age of Apocalypse #1.
Spider-island #1 will arrive in stores sometime in July 2015.
