Aerosmith Plays for Free: Bostonians Enjoy Free Street Concert in Allston, Band Promotes New Album 'Music from Another Dimension!'
Bostonians were treated to a delightful musical surprise when the popular rock band Aerosmith hit the streets outside of their old apartment building in Allston, MA to perform a free concert in promotion of their new album "Music from Another Dimension!" (which drops on Election Day - Tuesday, Nov. 6) on Monday afternoon. The area surrounding 1325 Commonwealth Ave. was heavily populated by diehard fans and college-aged students alike as Aerosmith tore into a number of classics including "Walk this Way" and "Sweet Emotion." New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was even spotted rocking out amongst the amped-up crowd.
Aerosmith kicked off their successful rock 'n' roll career at that exact Boston location, an area now known as Allston Rock City, years ago. The streets of Allston were buzzing Friday afternoon, after Aerosmith released a statement that the band would be hitting the streets to perform a free show on Monday.
Along with a number of classics, Aerosmith performed some newbies off of their upcoming album "Music from Another Dimension!" Band members also addressed the crowd (made up mostly of Boston University students) stating how important it is to get out and vote in the 2012 presidential election tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov. 6).
Kevin Lehrer, a real estate agent who co-owns most of the apartment rentals at 1325 Commonwealth Ave., said that the band members of Aerosmith moved into either unit number 31 or 41 in September, 1970. The guys moved out two years later, but a mysterious Aerosmith logo is currently painted on a wall in the building's basement - no one knows who painted it or when.
Boston University student Becca Emmetts, who lives in Aerosmith's former building, told the Sacromento Bee that said she sent a friend to her physics class on Monday with this message explaining her tardiness: "Aerosmith was playing on my front stoop."
