'Marvel's Luke Cage' Announcement: Cheo Hodari Coker Joins Mike Colter As Netflix Showrunner! [WATCH]
With the premiere of Marvel's Daredevil just a few days away, major announcement has been made for the next Netflix superhero series, Marvel's Luke Cage. Ray Donovan executive producer Cheo Hodari Coker will serve as showrunner in the Netflix series starring Mike Colter as the hero-for-hire, Carl Lucas?
As we previously mentioned, Carl Lucas' origin story begins with him being framed for a crime he didn't commit. Wanting to get revenge for the alleged drug bust, the wrongfully accused criminal volunteers for an experimental treatment at the prison. The chemical compounds end up giving him superhuman strength and durability.
According to Marvel, the supervising producer of the cop drama, SouthLAnd, will serve as the executive producer and show runner of the show. Coker is currently writing the first two episodes of the the anticipated series. We're very excited to see what Coker has in store, especially since his writing credits includes the rap biopic, Notorious.
Luke Cage will first appear in an episode of Marvel's AKA Jessica Jones. During an investigation in New York City, the super-powered private investigator (played by Krysten Ritter) will encounter the enigmatic superhero. His secrets will dramatically alter Jessica in ways she could never have imagined.

We mentioned before, the Halo: Nightfall actor described the tone, "It's all part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but Luke Cage is a darker, grittier, more tangible character than Iron Man or Thor. He likes to keep things close to his chest, operate on the hush-hush. He has these abilities but he's not sure how and when to use them. He's a very nuanced character."
We have 5 reasons why we're excited to see Mike Colter as Luke Cage.
Marvel's Luke Cage will premiere on Netflix sometime in 2016.
