Mary Kay Letourneau, Vili Fualaau Celebrate 10th Wedding Anniversary ... and Grandkids?
They're back! Mary Kay Letourneau, 53, and Vili Fualaau will be returning to TV for a new interview on their controversial marriage and love story that began when Fualaau was just 13 and Letourneau was 34 and his sixth-grade school teacher at Shorewood Elementary. According to Us Magazine, the couple's celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary and grandkids and speaking about the ups and downs of marriage with Barbara Walters on ABC's 20/20 this Friday, April 10.
The Fualaaus have two daughters and made history with their troubling relationship, but through it all they're still together.
"I don't think there's ever a full 10 good years of marriage. You have your ups and downs in marriage," Fualaau, who is now a 31-year-old man, said. "But, you know, what matters is how you pull through all the bad times."
The couple have made it through some tough times, including Letourneau's seven-year prison sentence and the birth of their children Audrey and Georgia behind bars.
Letourneau was previously married to Steve Letourneau. The former couple had four children before the teacher and the student conceived their two daughters.
"It was a huge change in my life, for sure," Fualaau revealed to Walters about becoming a father of two girls by age 15. "I don't feel like I had the right support or the right help behind me ... From my family -- from anyone in general. I mean, my friends couldn't help me because they had no idea what, what it was like to be a parent, I mean, because we were all 14, 15."
The infamous couple tied the knot in 2005, a year after the former teacher, who is now working for a local attorney, was released from prison.
"It is our 10-year anniversary, and we already know that no matter how protective we are, that there's going to be a wave of intrusion in our life right now that we can't stop," Letourneau said. "So it's about doing the most responsible thing to protect our girls for the inevitable."
Besides their marriage, Letourneau and Fualaau became grandparents in 2011 for the first time.
According to KOMO News, the Letourneau's eldest son from her first marriage had a baby girl.
"It's just a big joy and a blessing to have a newborn in the family," Fualaau said at that time.
The exclusive update with Mary Kay Letourneau and Vili Fualaau airs Friday, April 10, on ABC's 20/20.
