Tony Scott Death Stalls "Top Gun 2" Production: Tragic Suicide May Prevent Future Release
The death of director/producer of Top Gun, Tony Scott has stalled filming for the 1986 blockbuster hit sequel starring Tom Cruise. Early August, filming was postponed after Scott committed suicide jumping off a bridge in Los Angeles. There was no motive found for the 68-year-old's death, but only letters left in his office for his loved ones.
While stalling the filming of "Top Gun 2," Paramount has decided to release the 3D version of the original to satisfy fans until further decision is made about the sequels future. According to New York Times, Paramount doesn't know how to release the 3D conversion of "Top Gun," which is ready for release. Slash Film noted, that Paramount may not know how to proceed with the impending film without Scott.
Even though, Scott's death is a sensitive subject for the studio, they may plan on re-releasing the original early 2013. Film insiders believe with the release of "Top Gun 3D" a strong momentum could push the the studio to find a new director.
