'The Americans' Season 3 Spoilers: Twitter Reacts To Keri Russell, Holly Taylor's Paige Jennings Finale! [WATCH]
The Season 3 finale of The Americans aired on FX. Leaving audiences with a major cliff-hanger, Twitter had lots to say as undercover spies Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell) Jennings faced the ultimate shocker from their daughter, Paige Jennings (Holly Taylor).
In our finale recap, Philip had to kill and frame one of Martha's co-workers to make the FBI look away from her. After getting the fake defector arrested, Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich) was given the go-ahead to continue his investigation against Oleg (Costa Ronin), but he is nowhere closer to saving Nina (Annet Mahendru). Elizabeth had a chance to say goodbye to her dying mother.
Before the end credits, Philip was unable to tell his wife that he wanted to leave the spy business. Elizabeth was filled with hatred as President Reagan declared the Soviet Union an "evil empire." Unable to control herself, the teary-eyed Paige called Pastor Tim and confessed her parents weren't Americans; they're Russians.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, co-showrunner Joel Weisberg discusses the last scene, "We considered the possibility of her making that phone call the night that they told her, and then we decided that we definitely didn't want to do that. So then it became a question of whether or not she would tell them this season or next season, and the finale seemed like the perfect point. What's most moving in a way is how much pain she's in there after she comes back from her trip with her mother, and how she expresses that pain and what it drives her to do. For us, it was really moving just to see her crying there in bed when her parents are in the next room not really able to connect with her or fully comprehend how much she's suffering. Then we have her call Pastor Tim and so openly and clearly express the pain she's in, which is something her parents are not able to do."
