Marvel Spider-Man Actor Casting Rumors 2015: Asa Butterfield is Top Choice for Peter Parker?
After narrowing down the actor short list for the new Spider-Man, it looks like Marvel is feeling the pressure of production beginning on Captain America: Civil War, which will premiere the new Peter Parker, possibly deciding on a "top choice." According to new reports, Asa Butterfield could be the studio's choice to portray the web-slinging comic book character in another reboot of Spider-Man, this time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

If this rumor is true, Asa has beaten out other short list contenders Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet Nat Wolff, and Liam James. To find out more on these hopefuls, check out our previous coverage right here!
According to an anonymous source speaking with Latino Review (who usually gets these rumors correct), Asa is the frontrunner and Marvel has wanted him from the start.
"Marvel had liked him since day one," this inside source told the website, according to IGN.
For now, we should still consider Holland, Chalamet, Wolff and James still in the running because we know that negotiations and contracts could end up ruining a deal, forcing the studio to move on to another choice.
If Butterfield does end up getting the role, how do you think the 18-year-old will fare as the web-slinging superhero? We assume he'll put on some muscle for the role, but perhaps Marvel is okay with his current gaunt look? Let us know what you think of this casting rumor in the comments section below!
Butterfield's representatives have responded "no comment" to this news, thus keeping the hype around his name growing.
We recently reported on the rumor that Billy Unger of Disney XD was campaigning for the role, and possibly had Marvel's backing. According to today's latest speculation, Billy could be out of luck.
