Andrew WK Named Cultural Ambassador to Promote 'Partying and World Peace' in the Middle East? State Department says 'Heck No'
Infamous "Party Hard" singer Andrew WK recently announced on his official website that he proudly accepted the title of Cultural Ambassador to Bahrain which would provide him the opportunity to travel to the Middle East in order to promote "partying and world peace." But according to the U.S. State Department, there is no way that is ever actually happening. While it appears that Andrew WK was indeed tentatively invited to visit the Muslim country, officials have revoked their decision due to the hard rocker's "wild, inappropriate behavior." What a bummer!
Here is the initial message that WK sent out to fans on his website:
"The US Department of State in partnership with the US Embassy in Manama, Bahrain, has invited Andrew to visit the Middle East to promote partying and positive power. In the tradition of the American Jazz Ambassadors who traveled the world in the mid 20th century as examples of American culture and spirit, Andrew has been invited by the State Department to travel to the Middle Eastern country of Bahrain and share his music and partying with the people there. Andrew will begin his journey sometime in December, 2012 and will visit elementary schools, the University of Bahrain, music venues, and more, all while promoting partying and world peace.
Andrew says: 'This is a tremendous invitation. I'm very thankful to the Department of State for giving me the opportunity to visit a place I've never been before. And I feel very privileged and humbled by the chance to represent the United States of America and show the good people of Bahrain the power of positive partying. I can hardly wait for this adventure!'
For security reasons, the exact travel dates, details, and other specifics are being kept top secret at this time. Complete information will be released as soon as possible."
This updated message accompanied the initial post not too long after:
"BREAKING NEWS: After a year of planning and development, the US State Department has unexpectedly canceled their plans for Andrew's trip to the Middle East this week, after changing their minds and deciding that it was "a mistake and not appropriate. More information and a statement from Andrew, coming soon."
State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland confirmed the cancellation on Monday, insisting that the 33-year-old singer's invitation had been rescinded by senior U.S. officials because they deemed him an inappropriate choice for outreach in the conservative Muslim kingdom. The State Dept. also recently released this statement - "While Andrew W.K. was invited by a US embassy 'cultural speakers program' for a possible overseas trip to Bahrain, the embassy in Manama later determined that the program was 'not appropriate' and canceled it promptly some time ago."
What do Mstarz readers think of WK having his "Cultural Ambassador to Bahrain" title revoked before even being provided the chance to extend his duties abroad?
