Homeland Season 5 Spoilers: Show Recasting Carrie Mathison's Daughter
Fans who have been following news on Season 5 of Homeland know that the Showtime spy series will jump ahead a few years and place Claire Danes' character, Carrie Mathison, in Germany. But now we've learned that the show is recasting Carrie and Brody's daughter.
The following comes from the "Spoiler Chat" column at E! Online:
"Jennifer: Homeland spoilers please!
Recast alert! The show is currently looking for a new little redhead to play Carrie and Brody's daughter, Frannie. Her age when we come back? 3! A k a a child who is far less easy to ignore. And a child when mommy is around or not. GULP. But that's not the only major role being cast: Prepare to see Carrie with a possible new love interest, a lawyer who is her intellectual equal. Oh, and Saul better watch out because Carrie will also be getting a new father figure."
Most of Season 4 took place in Pakistan, but Season 5 will take the show out of the Middle East and place it in Germany, the network announced Monday. Homeland will become the first American television series in history to shoot a full season entirely in Germany, Showtime added. The new season will film at Studio Babelsberg in Berlin.
Entertainment Weekly reports Season 5 will pick up two years after the events of Season 4. "Struggling to reconcile her guilt and disillusionment with years of working on the front lines in the 'war on terror,' Carrie finds herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, estranged from the CIA and working for a private security firm," EW reports.
Add this to the list of spoilers and news we've received about Season 5 thus far. Consider what the "Ask Ausiello" column at TVLine reported earlier this month:
"Question: Too early to ask about Homeland Season 5? -Gerry
Ausiello: It's early-ish, but I've got a few nuggets for you. Season 5, which picks up nearly three years after the events of the Season 4 finale, will find Carrie and Saul somewhat estranged. 'As we open the season, Saul is back in the CIA and Carrie is out of it,' exec producer Alex Gansa shares. 'So that's going to create, by definition, a distance between them.' Carrie will also be apart from another former colleague - Quinn. Speaking of the almost-lovers, Gansa admits the writers room remains divided on 'how much of the connection between Carrie and Quinn... is actually romantic [versus] operational,' adding, 'How much is just that they recognize each other so well? How much is the desire for both of them to move on past this job that they do. Those are the questions that we're wrestling with. We wrestled with them last season. We're wrestling with them again.'"
