CW's 'The Flash' Spoilers: Will Jesse L Martin, Candice Patton Meet Iris West-Allen's Mother?
The countdown continues with 2 episodes of The Flash left on the CW network. Before the first season finale, before she even becomes the future Iris West-Allen, will Iris West (Candice Patton) suddenly discover Joe West (Jesse L. Martin)'s shocking secret about her mother?
In our previous recap, Cisco, Caitlin, and Barry discovered the Reverse-Flash's Time Vault, which revealed the scarlet speedster's future. Caitlin recognized the name of the newspaper article and pointed out, Iris West-Allen. Barry is destined to one day marry the love of his life, but Eddie has plans of his own to propose to Iris. Just as the Reverse-Flash kidnapped Eddie, Iris discovered the man behind the red suit is really Barry.
In our recent recap, the Reverse-Flash revealed the future to Eddie, where Iris married Barry and hyphenated her name, West-Allen. Knowing the scarlet speedster's identity, Iris joined the group as they tracked down Gorilla Grodd in the sewers. Though Iris realizes that she does care for Barry, there are still unresolved issues with Eddie she needs to deal with first.
In the comic books, Iris West's full name is Iris Ann Russell West Allen. In the DC Universe, the Russells, from the future timeline, are Iris' biological parents. In danger from the Reverse-Flash, the Russells sent Iris to the past to her adoptive mother, Ira.
The TV series has hinted Joe's marriage fell apart after the death of Barry's mother. Will the show follow the comics and reveal Iris is really adopted? Is so, how will that affect Joe and his relationship with Iris?
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Patton answers if Iris will meet her mother before season's end, "I'm excited to go down that path too, of finding out the backstory and whereabouts of Iris' mother. I don't know that we'll get to that by the end of the season but I'm more than sure that we'll address Iris' mom and what happened there."
