CBS' 'Supergirl': Melissa Benoist, Calista Flockhart, Mehcad Brooks' Pilot Gets Series Order!

CBS has announced their series order to their upcoming DC Comics superhero drama, Supergirl. After a successful pilot screening, Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) and Jimmy Olson (Mehcad Brooks) have their hands full as they take on Superman's league of villains.

As we previously mentioned, the CBS superhero drama will follow the comic book adventures of Kara Zor-El (Benoist). Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped before its destruction. While living on Earth, Kara has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at the tender age of 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and become the hero she was always meant to be

We mentioned before, Jimmy Olsen (Brooks) is a photographer at CatCo.,where Kara works. Jimmy has recently been living and working in National City, though the reason why is still a secret. What will be kept from the comics is Jimmy's romantic relationship with Supergirl. In the pilot, Jimmy and Supergirl willend up working together to take down the Wonder Woman baddie, Lumberjack, who's under orders from the main big bad.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler was looking for dramas with strong female leads. After seeing the final cut of the pilot, Tassler loved it. Multiple sources tell the site CBS could actually place the show for Sundays at the 8 pm time slot or during the summer, alongside Under the Dome, Extant and Zoo.

As we perviously mentioned, Faran Tahir, Dean Cain, and Helen Slater have also joined the cast with the series regulars. Owain Yeoman was recently added to play the super villain Vartox, an alien convict, who has been hiding on Earth for the past twelve years.

Supergirl will premiere during CBS' 2015-16 lineup.
