Iain Glen is back in focus as Ser Jorah Mormont in Season 5 of HBO's Game of Thrones after Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) exiled him last season. In an interview with EW, the actor discusses the twist ending of the most recent episode, "Kill The Boy."

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

The episode ended with the revelation that Jorah has contracted grayscale, the disease caused by the touch of the Stone Men in Valyria. But is this the end of him? EW spoke to Glen about the twist at the end of the episode, which the actor only discovered when he read the script.

“I thought, ‘Uh-oh, here comes trouble,’” Glen said. “Then you start reaching out for what this means, and [showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff] are playing their cards very close to their vest on this one.”

But is this grayscale necessarily a death sentence?

"You wouldn't think good," he said. "But in this story, people have died from it and they have been saved from it. So who knows? It's a slow burn, greyscale, and there are ways to intervene."

As we mentioned in our review of "Kill The Boy," the writers expertly brought grayscale back into the viewers' minds with the conversation between Stannis and his daughter in the previous episode, then paid it off with Jorah. "Dan and David are so clever at surprising you, so wherever you think something might lead, it usually leads somewhere else," Glen said.

The actor went on to discuss the experience of playing his part away from Daenerys. "It's a very different journey this year to being constantly attached to Daenerys - which I've loved, but I'm enjoying the freedom of playing different scenes away from her as I'm working my way back toward her," Glen said.

But Glen had the good fortune of jumping right into work with Peter Dinklage. "There's nothing complicated or difficult about Peter," he said. "He's a lovely guy. We have a laugh. He's the type of actor I really like-he can be serious when he needs to be, but then he's not when he doesn't need to be."

EW asked what's next for Jorah, and the actor teased a major fight scene before Season 5 ends. "I've had bits and pieces of fighting through the course of the seasons," he said. "I had the one-to-one with the Dothraki bloodrider, and then there was the sequence fighting to get into the city of Meereen. But this season will be the most substantial fighting I've had."

Finally, Glen revealed what he would like Jorah to accomplish during his time on the show. "I'd like to see Daenerys sit on the Iron Throne," he said. "I'd like him to help her achieve her success."
