A ten-foot-long tiger shark attacks a 61-year-old man of the coast of Hawaii while he was snorkeling. Tom Kennedy, Oregon resident felt a tug on his leg. When the shark released him, he swam as quick as he can leaving a trail of blood, "It released me. So I started swimming as fast as I could. I would guess I was a still a hundred yards from my board," he said. "As I went further, I started to bleed. I could see a string of blood, which was my next concern."

Fortunately, Kennedy's bloody trail did not attract the shark or any other ones that may be in the area, but he still feared for his life,"I kept watching behind because I was concerned it would come back again." Severely injured, Kennedy signaled his friend Holly, an emergency room nurse who used some boards to make a tourniquet. Later, Kennedy was taken to Maui Medical Center for multiple lacerations to his calf, "We had very quick response. Police and EMT's were there right away," Kennedy said.

Recovering from the shark bite, Kennedy is counting his blessings for this rare shark encounter, "It could have been this, or you could have been struck by lightning, the odds are about the same," he said.
