The shocking suicide of Jovan Belcher and the murder of his girlfriend Kasandra M. Perkins has left their loved ones and the nation speechless. The Kansas City Chiefs linebacker and Perkins are survived by their 3 month old child.

Belcher and Perkins appeared to be a very happy and close family prior to this tragic incident, the Perkins family told TMZ. Their young daughter was born in September 2012 and the couple couldn't be more "ecstatic" about their new family.

Police reported that after Belcher shot his girlfriend, he drove to the Arrowhead Stadium to thank his general manager Scott Piolo and coach Romeo Crennel. After that, he shot himself in the parking lot in front of them.

A statement was made by Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt expressing their condolences. "The entire Chiefs family is deeply saddened by today's events, and our collective hearts are heavy with sympathy, thoughts and prayers for the families and friends affected by this unthinkable tragedy."

"We sincerely appreciate the expressions of sympathy and support we have received from so many in the Kansas City and NFL communities, and ask for continued prayers for the loved ones of those impacted."

"We will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities and work to ensure that the appropriate counseling resources are available to all members of the organization."

It is unknown what kind of motive Belcher had. Perkin's family claimed that they had "no idea" why such "devastating" tragedy occurred. The NFL also expressed their sadness in the moment.

RIP Perkins and Belcher.
