Kardashian Protests in Middle East: Kim K's 'Bad Reputation' Opposed in Bahrain, Police Suppress Rioting Crowd and Fans with Tear Gas, Stun Grenades [VIDEO]
Infamous reality star Kim Kardashian may have enjoyed her time overseas in the Middle East (specifically her three-day visit to Kuwait and Bahrain to help launch new Millions of Milkshakes shops), but apparently some protesters weren't so pleased or welcoming with the 32-year-old socialite's "bad celebrity reputation." Kim K fans (who view the American model/actress as a "role model for successful women"), were met with several avid protesters on the streets of Bahrain on Saturday (Dec. 1) - approximately 100 Sunni Salafist demonstrators stood outside the popular Manama mall "The Walk Bahrain," fearing that Kardashian's presence in their small Persian Gulf island would "spread vice throughout the country." Supporters and protestors alike were then met with tear gas and supposedly even stun grenades fired by riot police, wreaking havor throughout the area.
Kim K seems to have loved her trip to Kuwait and Bahrain - and many of her fans came out to show their wholehearted support. But it remains unclear if Kanye West's beau understands that her visit was also met with much hatred and animosity. Kardashian kept fans updated throughout the trip on Twitter, and all her tweets remained thoroughly positive:
@KimKardashian: "Just touched down in Kuwait!!! Riding to the hotel now! So excited to be here!" (Nov. 28).
@KimKardashian: "So proud that our Kardashian Kollection clothing line launched here in Kuwait yesterday at Dorothy Perkins! I need to go get a dress!" (Nov. 28).
@KimKardashian: "Can't wait to see all my Kuwaiti fans today at Millions of Milkshakes!!!" (Nov. 29).
@KimKardashian: "OMG I just [landed in] Bahrain! Can I move here please?" the star tweeted. "Prettiest place on Earth!" (Retweeted by the Prime Minister).
@KimKardashian: "Camels in the desert of Bahrain." (Dec. 1).
@KimKardashian: "Such a fun day in Bahrain!!!" (Dec. 1).
@KimKardashian: "Thanks Sheikh Khalifa for your amazing hospitality. I'm in love with The Kingdom of Bahrain @bu_daij70." (Dec. 1).
While Kim K had a great time launching the Millions of Milkshakes shop at the mall in Bahrain, many protestors were gathered outside, chanting derogatory slogans with one sign even reading, "None of our customs and traditions allow us to receive stars of porn movies."
Meanwhile not too far away in Riffa, a city south of the capital Manama in the Bahrain kingdom, about 50 hardcore Islamic protesters who gathered to denounce the Hollywood socialite's visit were met with tear gas dispersed by riot police. These avid protestors (who were cleared out before Kardashian's highly-anticipated arrival) were chanting "God is Great" and had hoped to surround the populated shopping complex to discourage and damper the star's visit.
Protestors probably weren't too impressed with Kim K's rather "revealing" dress ensemble in such a conservative society, either. Kardashian wore a fashionably chic (yet very skin-tight and skimpy) white dress to the launch of the store.
Meanwhile, thousands of loyal fans who had paid up to $1,360 were able to witness Kim K launch the hit ice cream/frozen yogurt shop inside the jam-packed mall. As these fans were screaming hysterical cries of praise and awe, other eyewitnesses allege that police were dispersing other demonstrators using stun grenades (although no injuries were reported).
Before landing in the Middle East, Kardashian pledged to learn more about the region following controversial comments she made on Twitter about Palestine and Israel. About two weeks ago Kim K was met with heated skepticism after tweeting praise for both Israel, and then Palestine - she later deleted the messages and issued an apology, claiming she didn't mean any offense.
