'The Flash' Season 2 Spoilers: Is Grant Gustin's Barry Allen "Broken" By Iris West/Eddie Thawne?
The season finale ofThe Flash aired on the CW network. In the upcoming Season 2 of The Flash, are Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Iris West (Candice Patton) "too heartbroken" to even think of each other's relationship after Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett)'s sacrifice?
In our recent recap, with the countdown ticking, Barry had to transport his prisoners, including Weather Wizard and Peek-a-boo, to Oliver's prison island. Unfortunately, Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) was planning all along to sabotage the mission and let the prisoners escape. The Flash didn't have to worry though about fighting the Reverse-Flash alone, because the scarlet speedster had Firestorm (Robbie Amell) and Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) giving his enemy an epic beatdown.
In our finale recap, Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) offered Barry a chance to save his mother; in exchange for a ride back home. After running backwards in time, Barry saw his future self warn him not to change the events. Barry stayed with his mother, telling her he loved her, until she died.
In the closing minutes, Eddie shot himself, in order to stop the Reverse-Flash; erasing him from existence. The rift in the time-stream caused a black hole to suddenly appear. Putting the mask back on, The Flash raced at full speed to repair the damage.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg reveals things will not go well between Iris and Barry, " Obviously Iris is going to be dealing with that. Barry is going to be dealing with the fact that all Barry has ever wanted to do is protect Iris, and in the end it was Eddie who got to do it. Joe (Jesse L. Martin) has lost his partner. One of the great things about Flash-that was always designed to be that way, but has turned out far more emotional and better than we ever could've hoped for-was just how much people care for these characters and how much the characters care about each other."
Kreisberg adds, "To lose somebody like Eddie-who has never been anything but a good guy and is the one who sacrifices himself not just for our characters, but for the world-that's going to have an impact and it's not something that's going to go away right away. Like with a tragedy in any of our lives, every day you get further away from it, it gets a little bit easier, but it's really about integrating it into your life moving forward."
The Flash will return on the CW in the fall.
