Azealia Banks Cast in RZA's 'Coco': Wu-Tang Clan Member Gives Rapper Spot In New Film
Azealia Banks is ready for her close up, y'all. The Broke with Expensive Taste rapper has just been cast in her debut film project. While we have been dying to see some more of this Harlem born native's face, it seems like we are going to be getting it in a big way... and on the big screen. News has just been released stating that the songstress has signed on to be part of Wu-Tang Clan member RZA's new flick, titled Coco.
Not only that, but according to Just Jared, Banks is getting ready to play the lead character in the film and the story doesn't seem to be too much of a stretch from the singer's real life.
The site is reporting that in the picture, Banks will play a 20-something who dreams of becoming a rapper, but is facing some resistance from her parents who want her to finish college. However, it is through her classroom experience that she finds the real power of the "spoken word" that leads her on the path to starting her career.
While we have seen musicians try to make the jump from albums to feature films in the past, and fail miserably, we don't think this will be happening to Banks, as this film already features a pretty impressive cast.
According to Deadline, Azealia will be starring alongside the likes of Common, Jill Scott, Lucien Laviscount, Lorraine Toussaint, and Hana Mae Lee, not too shabby for your first picture, right?
Filming has yet to begin, but once it does, we will give you all the details from the set of what is sure to be a musical extravaganza.
