Dallas Cowboy's, Jerry Brown Killed: Josh Brent Charged For Intoxication Manslaughter,Tragedy Mourned By NFL Teams

The NFL has suffered yet another tragedy. Dallas Cowboys linebacker Jerry Brown was killed in a one-car accident Saturday. His teammate Josh Brent was arrested after taking a sobriety test, but later charged with intoxication manslaughter after Brown was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

The accident occurred when Brent was speeding and their vehicle hit a curb and flipped once around 2:20 a.m. according to Irving police spokesman, John Argumaniz. The two Dallas Cowboy's teammates played for the University of Illinois for three seasons. When authorities arrived at the scene, Brown was unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the at the hospital.

The Cowboys owner Jerry Jones released a statement saying,  "We are deeply saddened by the news of this accident and the passing of Jerry Brown. At this time, our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry's family and all of those who knew him and loved him." 

Brent is being held without bond and will not play in Sunday's game against the Bengals. The athlete was still intoxicated and missed his 10 a.m. booking session with the judge on Saturday. Brown had been signed to the Cowboys practice squad after being released by the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad  in October. Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said in a statement,  "On behalf of the entire Colts family, our sincerest condolences go out to Jerry's family and friends," he added, "He was a good teammate that was well liked by all. Today's tragic news is just another reminder of how fragile life is and how everyday given is a gift."
