Tyler Oakley Helps Ricky Martin Come Out As Gay, Reveals Confession to Ellen Degeneres

There is definitely no denying the power that YouTube has had on our society. While we tend to go to the site to watch cat videos and see some hilarious clips, it also is a place where people go to get inspiration and advice. While normal folks like us use the site to get insight into issues, it seems that celebrities use it for the same reason. That's right, it turns out the one YouTuber had a pretty big impact on Latino music star Ricky Martin's life. In fact, it was with Tyler Oakley's help that Martin finally decided to come out as gay.

According to Just Jared, Tyler was one of the reasons that the 43-year-old decided to publicly announce his sexuality on National Coming Out Day in 2008.

The YouTuber appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show earlier this week, where he talked to the TV host about the awesome moment.

"Back in like 2008, I made a video about the importance of being authentic to yourself and about coming out and how you should wait till your ready and things like that," the star explained. "A few years later I got a tweet one morning on National Coming Out Day and it was from Ricky Martin. And he said that that video was part of the reason why he felt ready to share his story."

In the clip, Tyler also explained why he thinks people flock to his channel, and why he has become so successful at what he does.

"I think people just want to watch people live their authentic lives and share the good and the bad, and kind of show that maybe you can have fun and still be a positive influence," the star admitted.

We definitely think he is making a positive influence, as we are sure it wasn't just Ricky Martin who he helped be honest about their sexuality.
