The mystery/suspense drama, Wayward Pines, from The Sixth Sense director, M. Night Shyamalan continues on Fox. In Episode 4, after the Sheriff Pope (Terence Howard) shocker, will agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) find himself becoming the new lawman in town?
In our previous recap, Secret Service agent Ethan Burke (Dillon) was in the middle of an investigation when his car was suddenly hit by a truck. Outside of Wayward Pines, Ethan's wife Theresa (Shannyn Sossamon) is wondering why her husband has gone missing. Waking up, Ethan finds himself trapped in a strange town where anyone could either be an ally or enemy.
Just as Ethan and Beverly (Lewis) were able to find a map, their plan was discovered by Kate (Carla Gugino) and her husband Harold (Reed Diamond). Sheriff Pope (Terrence Howard) decided to make an example of Beverly after she was captured by the townspeople. In a public execution, Ethan helplessly watched from afar as Sheriff Pope slit Beverly's throat.
In an interview Entertainment Weekly, showrunner/executive producer Chad Hodge reveals how Sheriff Pope's death was meant to break own walls, "Think about Ethan's family. Ethan was having an affair, yet his wife, Theresa (Shannyn Sossamon), and son, Ben (Charlie Tahan), set out to find him because they love him. And because they hate him. And when they find Ethan in Wayward Pines, he's with Kate, the same woman he was having an affair with. Yet at the end of the episode, the family is bonded in a new and very intense way after they kill Sheriff Pope. Now they have their own secret."
According to TV Line, in tonight's episode, Ethan's wife Theresa (Shannyn Sossamon) is offered a job as a real estate agent. Ethan's son, Ben (Charlie Tahan), has been accepted to Wayward Pines Academy by teacher Megan Fisher (Hope Davis). Ethan will also be taking a new leadership role in Wayward Pines.
