5 Reasons To Get 'Grayson Vol. 1: Agents Of Spyral' By DC Comics' Tom King & Tim Seeley!
DC Entertainment has released Grayson Vol. 1: Agents of Spyral in stores now. This is the perfect opportunity to check out how the Grayson writers Tim Seeley and Tom King, and artist Mikel Janín turned Batman's former Robin into a globe-trotting 007 agent in the New 52 Universe.
As we previously mentioned, Grayson Vol. 1: Agents of Spyral, follows Batman's boy wonder all grown up and left on his own. Due to the fallout of Forever Evil, Nightwing has been unmasked and Dick Grayson is presumed dead to the rest of the world. No longer the crime-fighter, Grayson finds himself infiltrating the shadowy underbelly of the mysterious spy agency, known as Spyral.
We have 5 reasons why you should get Grayson Vol. 1: Agents of Spyral:
5) The Super-Spy!
This isn't Robin leading the superhero team, the Teen Titans. This isn't Nightwing protecting the gritty streets of Bludhaven. This is Dick Grayson on his own terms, in his own solo missions. As an undercover spy, we see Grayson putting on wigs, perform death-defying stunts, and even use a gun.
4) The Best Bond Villain Ever!
Mr. Minos, the Director of Spyral, is a pretty crafty big bad. Because he is an expert an misdirection, you're never quite sure if Mr. Minos is one step ahead of Grayson, even while he's being played. I thought it was funny that the super villain likes to make fun of his shapeless, labyrinth-looking face.
3) Will He Or Won't He With Helena Bertinelli?
In our MStars interview, co-writer Tom King described the former Huntress, "Helena's a very interesting character because ultimately she derives from the Wayne family pre-crisis and she's always been sort of this broken reflection of Batman. She went through what Batman did. She has the same obsession as Batman, but she didn't learn the same lesson as Batman in terms of not killing and always serving on the good guys side. So to have Dick Grayson who was raised as Batman, his ideal father, and to have a sexy girl in that role creates very interesting tension."
2) That's Right! You Don't Know D*ck!
Playing around with the James Bond archetype, Grayson sure likes to sleep around with random women. Just like Jack Bauer in the 24 franchise, even though Grayson is wearing a acrobatic-looking costume, he just carries the necessities with him. The funniest part of the book is when Grayson ends up meeting a group of teenage girls, who have their own brand of witty and sarcastic humor.
1) There's More Big Bad Heading Our Way!
In our MStars interview, Seeley wants Slade Wilson, Deathstroke The Terminator to show up and King expects, "what I very much want to do, what we're building towards and is a 50-issue plan is to build up to create Dick's arch-nemesis. And that's still on the table and still going! I still want to do that, to create someone that will be around for the next 50 years that will stand against Dick Grayson. I want that to be one of the legacies of this series to have Dick Grayson's Joker, Lex Luthor, or Cheetah."
